We may have overwhelming emotions and feel unsettled. We can help ourselves by minimising negative thoughts and to encourage ourselves to be positive, but this is easier said than done. We are social beings, and our negative emotions are telling us something. They are like friends who want to be heard, and if they have the courage and ability to help us in return. Minimising negative emotions does not mean that we order our negative emotions to become positive, it doesn’t work this way. We need to befriend our negative emotions, we need to give them attention and and help that they deserve, and then once they have opened up and explained what they are upset about, then we need to accept them, and gently ask them to step aside and let our self that hiding behind the negative emotion to show itself. This means that we accept the negative emotions as they are, and also we let our true self to show and to take over. This is the way to turn a negative emotion into positive by taking care of it, and therefore learn and grow from it. To think constructively and openly, we need to ensure ourselves that we can try and deal with our emotions in a constructive manner. Overwhelming emotions are result of negative thoughts, these are our internal feelings and thoughts and they need to have a voice and to be cared for. We are in need of feeling that we belong to a greater cause and feel useful, our greatest cause and usefulness is to take care of ourselves. In order to function better we need to help ourselves be healthier in mind and body. This results in a more productive life where we can manage our emotions, live a good life, and simple be and do better for ourselves and others.
We need to be in control of our emotions and to manage our negative feelings, this control does not mean not to share them, does not mean not to let them speak, it simply means to be there for them so they don’t feel alone anymore, and so that they won’t need a protector or guard to take care of them, they can be free, and simply be. To do this we need to try to better ourselves to handle difficult emotions with care, love and compassion. In order to succeed we should take things as they come and to be prepared, and mindful of what we share and how we share in any given environment. Therefore some flexibility in our life goes a long way.
